Abstract: »This paper focuses on 「Joseonsonyeoeum」, which was included in 『wolpung』 in 1940 by the famous Chinese play scholar Wang Zhongsheng and is an epic poem that realistically expresses the turbulent life hardships of comfort women in Joseon. 「Joseonsonyeoeum」is a long seven-word poem with 62 phrases and 437 characters. The story begins when the Chinese army raids Xinxiang and meets a Korean girl called 'The Comfort Women' as a prisoner. It is divided into parts. In 「Joseonsonyeoeum」, not only the honest confession of a Joseon girl but also the cold gaze of the time toward comfort women is captured. In addition, the miserable and difficult lives of the comfort women who traveled around China are revealed, including the situation where Joseon men were taken to the battlefield as combat troops and killed, and women became comfort women and were driven to other countries. Moreover, the stories of Ms. Min and Ms. Choi reveal the horrors of coercion and violence against comfort women. Meanwhile, the purpose of the comfort women is to spread caution and a message to the Chinese people is clearly revealed. Although 「Joseonsonyeoeum」does not exactly correspond to historical facts at the time, it is not unrelated to the situation in which rumors about comfort women were widely spread in Joseon and accepted as fact. Therefore, 「Joseonsonyeoeum」 is a faction that combines calligraphy and fiction, and is a full-length epic that realistically expresses the turbulent life hardships of comfort women.« (Source: KISS)
